What Parents Should Know About Pediatric Sports-Related Concussions

What Parents Should Know About Pediatric Sports-Related Concussions

When a child experiences a suspected concussion during sports, it can be an overwhelming moment for parents. Questions arise quickly: Is this serious? Should we go to the emergency room? What happens next? Understanding the right steps can make a significant difference in both peace of mind and recovery. Michael Marchetti, Sports Medicine Specialist from OrthoConnecticut shares some great tips with us!

Meet Emmy and Rikki of Ready, Set, K!

Meet Emmy and Rikki of Ready, Set, K!

Both moms to little boys, this dynamic duo is taking Westport by storm! Rikki (gray sweater!) and Emmy (in blue) were elementary school educators (Emmy focused on special ed), with Masters degrees in education as well as being certified in Executive Function Coaching (EFC). Though both have separate careers working with families to provide one-on-one and small group educational support, together they recently launched Ready, Set, K! a a program designed to thoughtfully prepare young learners for the transition into kindergarten. The program focuses on building early academic skills alongside essential executive functioning and social–emotional foundations, using structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate approaches. They are thrilled to be sharing this with the Westport community, and to meet so many young learners! In their free time, Rikki is a wellness coach and afficianado, while Emmy loves being outside as much as possible, and reality TV of course. They both love working with kids; Rikki says in another life she’d have been a pediatric nurse, and Emmy says she likely would have been a pediatric dentist! We are lucky to have them right here in Westport, and they look forward to working with many families to help prepare kids for this important and exciting transition!

Meet Brieane!

Meet Brieane!

Westport mom of two little girls, Brieane recently launched her children’s clothing brand – Mila Lou – born from a love of fashion, travel & of course inspired by her girls. Most recently, Brieane worked in interior design but always had a true love for fashion. As she traveled more with her young kids, she saw a need for stylish, quality Resortwear for littles and decided last year to make it a reality! As Brieane shares, “Each piece is designed to feel special but effortless – something a little girl can wear to the beach, a family dinner, or a summer celebration, and still feel completely comfortable being herself.” Brieane recently binged Love Story, loves Mel Robbins or the giggly squad podcast, and could never give up Mexican food (including a margarita of course!). She misses California, but loves the seasons, any chance to travel, and growing her business right here in Westport. Lucky us to have her!

As parents, we often hear “it’s just growing pains”… but sometimes it’s more than that. As kids grow, their bones, joints, and muscles go through many changes. A Spring Hosting Menu That Keeps You Out of the Kitchen and In the Moment

Spring celebrations should feel fresh, thoughtful, and surprisingly easy. At ONTHEMARC, our success comes from planning ahead and considering every detail. That same approach applies to hosting at home, so we curated a menu of dishes that feel elevated without requiring hours in the kitchen. Think make-ahead, reheat-friendly, and made to impress.

Meet Molly of Hemma Kitchen

Meet Molly of Hemma Kitchen

Mom of three little ones, and a native of Westport, Molly launched Hemma Kitchen (a weekly food delivery service) out of her love for food and her passion for creating beautiful meals that nourish and delight. Originally in fashion school with hopes of being a fashion writer, Molly realized her love for food and cooking trumped all, and she went on to become a classically trained chef. After time in LA and working in catering and at restaurants, including Blue Hill at Stone Barnes, she realized she wanted to work for herself, creating her own projects that have purpose. Molly swears by spaghetti and the Armchair Expert podcast, and in another life might live in Maine and be a trapeze master! Her food is delicious, nutritious and made with love; check out her latest menu for inspo!

OrthoConnecticut is very proud to have three exceptional women orthopedic surgeons on their team, alongside many talented women across their clinical, surgical, and administrative departments. Their presence represents progress, leadership and opportunity for the next generation of physicians.
