Meet Jen Tooker!

Meet Jen Tooker!

Though Jen Tooker – Westport mom of three – once dreamed of having 6 kids and of being a professional soccer player, she could not be more excited about running with Jim Marpe for the Board of Selectmen this November. After 22 years working for a reinsurance company and traveling the world (including London for 12 years!), she decided it was time to serve her community through public service – and she remains committed to doing so. When Jen is not on the campaign trail, she loves days with her family in their 20 foot wooden canoe, and being present for her kids – whenever they may need her. We were honored to talk to Jen, and are grateful for her passion and commitment to Westport!

Meet Melissa Kane!

Meet Melissa Kane!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock=), you have likely seen and heard that Melissa Kane – Westport mom of two – is running for First Selectwoman this November. After a successful career in writing, followed by owning her own flower and home décor business, Melissa fell into the world of local politics – and it was love at first debate. Melissa shared her path to the campaign trail with us and why she wants to be our First SelectWoman, as well as some fun tidbits including that she toured with Peter Gabriel as his publicist and got kicked out of sleep-away camp as a teenager! She also likes the meditating App called Headspace which helps make her zen admist all the campaign chaos (sounds like an App some of us moms could use as well:)). Melissa is truly an inspiration to us all and we commend her dedication to Westport!

How to Handle News Media Exposure with Kids

How to Handle News Media Exposure with Kids

With all of the news of late, it is nearly impossible to know what – if anything – to say to your children about the world we live in. Audrey Paul (M.D.Ph.D. trained in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine), who runs Heads Up Concussion Center in Westport and works at Westport Urgent Care shares her guidelines on how much and what media exposure is appropriate based on age! Thank you Audrey!

Melissa Explains It All

Melissa Explains It All

While many of us may know Melissa Joan Hart from our years of obsession with Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina The Teenage Witch, what many likely don’t know is that Melissa is a mom of 3 boys here in Westport. Melissa began her acting career when she was 4 in a commercial for a bathtub doll called Splashy and is still acting and now producing. A few interesting facts about our local celeb is that she has a pet peeve for white cars, maintains her own yard, and if she had 24 free hours (or days) she would watch all 7 seasons of Game of Thrones. She loves Bar Taco with her family, Terrain with friends, and is incredibly grateful for a recent month spent with her family in Australia. Her most recent act is directing and producing a remake of the film “The Watcher in the Woods,” which will premiere on Lifetime on October 21st; be sure to SET YOUR DVRs NOW!
