With the changing seasons and allergies, childhood asthma often flares up. There are a lot of questions parents often have about what causes childhood asthma, what triggers flare-ups, whether it will be outgrown, and of course how to handle asthma as it relates to sports and schools. We turned to the experts at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital for their thoughts – and research – on this topic, and hope this is a helpful guide!! One thing to note- Yale New Haven has pediatric respiratory specialists at many nearby locations, including Greenwich, Norwalk and Trumbull.

Area 5k runners and walkers are lacing up for the 13th Annual STAR 5k Run, Walk & Stroll on Sunday, May 6th at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport. The event includes a Family Fun Day celebration and fundraiser to benefit individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). STAR Inc is an incredible organization and resource to this community, and this is an event not to be missed!

Westport Maker Faire THIS Saturday!
The 7th annual Maker Faire Westport will be this Saturday in downtown Westport. This is Connecticut’s largest event focused on creativity and innovation. The organizers are planning on a record 12,000+ attendees. Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire Westport is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire Westport to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.
Meet Stacie!
New-ish to Westport, Stacie is a mom (and entrepreneur!) not to be missed. In addition to being an actor, singer and songwriter who has performed on Broadway for nearly a decade, most notably as Glinda in Wicked, she is also a teacher, arts advocate, and mom to two curious and creative daughters. She is also most recently the co-writer of the children’s album Harmonize, and creator of the Harmonize Kidz arts enrichment program which uses her music to teach social and emotional learning to elementary students. Stacie will sing original songs from her album at a not to be missed family concert to benefit Sandy Hook Promise on May 19th in Newtown. In her free time, Stacie loves hip-hop, craves a perpetually hot cup of coffee, and wishes she never stopped taking piano lessons. Welcome to Westport Stacie; we are so glad you are here!
