Heads Up Westport Concussion Center

Special BOE Meeting tomorrow at Staples to discuss School Resource Officers

The Westport Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, April 17, beginning at 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Staples High School.  The first item on the agenda will be a discussion and anticipated vote on the Board’s plan for utilizing School Resource Officer(s) in our school district beginning in 2018-19.

The timing of this special meeting allows the Board of Education to discuss its possible request for School Resource Officers with the Board of Finance on the following evening, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall auditorium at the Board of Finance meeting.  It is expected that the Board of Finance will vote on the education budget for 2018-19 at this meeting.

The current request for an education budget stands at 3.36%, with costs of health insurance comprising more than three-quarters of this increase.  Without including health insurance costs, the proposed education budget represents a 0.78% year-over-year increase.  The current budget maintains all current educational programs, services, and class size guidelines.  The entire budget may be found online at https://www.westportps.org/district/board-of-education/proposedadopted-budget.
