5 Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season!
There’s an old adage that children may not do as we say, but they’ll do as we do. And never is that more true than when we’re giving back. Whether you’re donating time or money, your kids’ involvement is the key to showing them the power of helping others. To that end, we’ve rounded up five ways to give to others, that lend themselves to including kids. Let them choose a cause that interests them as well as you, and you’ll be halfway there to instilling this core value.
Meet Kim!
In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, and this time of year, we wanted to highlight Kimberly Greenberg, mom of three girls, who is the epitome of what determination, passion, and a mom’s ability to do hard things looks like. A financial advisor for over 15 years, Kim and her husbands’ lives changed forever when their first daughter, Parker, was born with an incredibly rare genetic syndrome – HIST1H1E. Discovered by geneticists only after Parker was born in 2016, Kim has dedicated her life’s work to helping other families who have children with special needs navigate the financial challenges with which they are faced. Kim has also dedicated her life toward raising money to support research on this rare syndrome, and her friends, family and the Westport community have raised over $200K so far toward “Parker’s Cure.” Some fun facts about Kim – she was a Division 1 college squash player, goes out in Westport more than she did in the city, and is a menace at the net in tennis; watch out! She loves the beach, dreams of a trip to Paris, and enjoyed nothing more than seeing Parker’s face light up on the roller coasters at Disney world this year! Thank you Kim for the amazing work you are doing for all the kids and families out there; Westport is lucky to have you!

Meet Jen Berniker!
If moving to the suburbs or extra time at home these last few years piqued your interest in home decor and design, Jen Berniker is someone you should know! After having kids, Jen struggled with what came next, having worked in TV for many years and still craving a creative outlet. After many part-time and freelance jobs, she recently created Designport (a platform for everyone from DIYers to seasoned designers to connect and share helpful advice on design), and has found a way to combine her storytelling and people-connecting skills with her love of photography, writing, and architecture & design. She also loves the added bonus of getting to visit so many people’s homes! Outside of work, she is an adrenaline junkie – loves skiing, climbing, dark chocolate, and all forms of travel. Meet Sharon!
To close out Breast Cancer Awareness month, we are thrilled to introduce Sharon to the Westport community. A true warrior in so many ways, Sharon shares her story battling breast cancer during the height of COVID (with an April 2021 diagnosis) and the incredible local community that has supported her. The child of Soviet immigrants with very little other than their work ethic and insistence on educating their children, she and her brother were raised in the Brooklyn Projects, and she has spent the last 20+ years doing immigration law, both to help others out there and to support her own parents who had done so much to support her. Sharon has an undeniable sweet tooth, is an early riser, and would love to travel to India. Her story is beautiful, unique, and one you won’t want to miss.
