Treasured Time is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that gives the ‘Gift of Moments’ to Connecticut families with children ages 3-18, where a parent is suffering from a life-threatening illness. On March 2nd, they are hosting a “Comedy Night Fundraiser” at the Westport Inn. For more information about this terrific cause, and event, see below!
When a parent with young children receives a diagnosis of an illness that might ultimately end their life, the world turns upside down. It becomes about fighting the battle to live for as long as possible, about endless doctor visits, treatments, hospital stays and medical bills, stress and fears about the future.
What these families often have the least, and need most, is time. Time together away from the daily stress of sickness. Time to talk, laugh and just be, to create memories as a family, memories they can hold on to, that will carry them through dark days if the worst occurs. And yet, for most families, taking a significant sum of money and going on a vacation or doing something extra special with their family simply cannot happen.
That’s where Treasured Time comes in. Families that meet our criteria are welcome to complete the Family Application on our website. Our recipient families all have the same wish, to spend time quality time with their family. Sometimes they have a specific request, like a recent recipient had to visit the Buffalo, NY area where he grew up, and for his family to be together at Buffalo Bills stadium. We were able to give Jay O’Leary and his family this ‘Gift of Moments’ in early June 2017. Sadly, Jay passed away on July 14, 2017, just a few short weeks after returning from the trip. Watch the video in the link to truly understand the impact Treasured Time had on the O’Leary’s and is having on the lives of other CT families:
