The Toys and Books we Love at The Toy Post
At The Toy Post in downtown Westport, we’re a family business, but we don’t do it all on our own. We rely on our great staff, including some fantastic Staples High School students, who were playing with toys not all that long ago.
We asked them to recommend a toy or book that was special to them when they were younger OR one that they wish they had. Here is what they said:
Lucy went right to the bookshelf and pulled off The Secret Garden. This classic book brought back such good memories for her and she loves this beautiful illustrated gift edition.
Max enthusiastically recommends Bone, a popular series of graphic novels for middle schoolers by Jeff Smith.
Claudia is a hockey player and told me she would have loved this Playmobil Hockey Arena when she was younger. In fact, she was more of a Lego girl, she says, and it was her sister who loved Playmobil. But Playmobil’s hockey line is special.
Kalina plays it cool, so you might be surprised to find that she loves Jellycat! Super soft and beautifully designed plush toys, the Jellycats are hard to resist. Kalina has fond memories of a certain Jellycat bunny, but what she loves now is the new Jellycat Robot!
Isa would have loved dressing up in this Batman cape when she was little.
Julie, our amazing store manager, keeps the store running day to day. You may recognize her puppy, Reggie, who comes to work with her. She remembers how much she loved Kay Thompson’s Eloise, a classic about a little girl who lives at The Plaza Hotel.
Annie, our buyer, was never much of an artist. But as a child, she loved her easel and spent hours drawing, painting and writing.
Nathan, our owner, loved trucks when he was a kid, the more realistic the better. This cement mixer, made in Germany by Bruder Toys, would have been a dream come true!
