Though it’s hard to believe, and we all know this day was going to come, we never really feel ready to let our little ones go. The preschool teachers have been preparing them and while they are full of excitement at just the thought, nobody adequately prepares us, and to be honest, it can feel scary, sad, sad and nerve-wracking (whether it’s your first or last – or any child in between) heading off for that first time.
Although there is still time before the bus doors close and our babies are off, the daunting registration process has begun. Our goal is to help you feel in control of this big milestone. We cannot help you hold back the tears on the actual day, but we will do our best to keep you in the know on all the important registration dates and what you will need to make the process even just a little bit easier.

When to register?
The 2026-2027 Kindergarten Registration is almost underway.

If your child will be five years old on or before September 1, 2026, we encourage you to register them as soon as possible. Early registration helps us plan ahead and ensures a smooth start to your child’s educational journey.
How to Register
Registering your child as soon as possible, allows the District to optimally plan for your new kindergartener. All registration information is located on the district website, via the “Kindergarten Registration” link under the PARENTS tab. It is also available on the district website via Quicklinks.
Kindergarten Information Session
Parents and/or caregivers of registered children will be invited to attend a school-based informational meeting about Kindergarten on Friday, March 6, 2026. At this time, you will have an opportunity to hear more details about Kindergarten from kindergarten teachers and other staff members. This event is for parents and/caregivers only.
Kindergarten Orientation
In May, an orientation session will occur at your child’s elementary school for both you and your child. A school specific invitation will be sent to all registered kindergarten families. If you are unsure about the elementary school your child should attend, please go to our school locator.

How can I get more information on Kindergarten in Westport?
- On Friday, March 6th, a Kindergarten Informational meeting will be held for parents who have completed the registration process.

Will my child be able to visit his/her school?
- At the Orientation in March, parents will sign-up for a visitation (“Mini-Kindergarten”) for their child which will occur in May 2026. More info to come on that as we have it!
When is my child eligible to attend kindergarten?
- To be eligible to enter kindergarten in September 2026, children must turn five years old on or before September 1, 2026.
What elementary school does my child go to?
- You can locate the elementary school your child should attend by consulting the schools by streets document.
What documents will I need to provide to register my child?
- Your child’s birth certificate or passport
- Evidence of legal residence — 4 proofs required
- Signed rental lease or proof of ownership–contract to purchase, warranty deed, mortgage deed.
- Two current utility bills that shows family at the address of residence
- Photo ID – Current drivers license at the address of residence, or Passport
- All families are required to sign the New Enrollee Verification of Residence form

How to register?
- Complete and print Infosnap forms from the Hurlbutt website. The link to the Hurlbutt “New Student Registration” is here. Copy/paste the link into your internet browser for instructions to begin the registration process, and click on the yellow link for the 20/21 school year.
When will the orientation process begin?
- An informational meeting will be held in the spring (details to come!) This will give you the opportunity to meet the administration, and to learn more about our kindergarten program. We look forward to meeting you and working together for our children.
What documents will I need to provide to register my child?
- Completed and printed Infosnap forms
- Proof of residency:
- Warranty deed, and
- Utility bill – telephone, gas or electric
- A Copy of your child’s birth certificate
Without all of these, your child cannot be registered.
