Meet Shannon! - Westport Moms

How old are your kids and how long have you lived in Westport? We moved to Westport from Dallas in July 2017! We have two girls who are 13 and 16 years old.

How did you end up where you are now in terms of your job, or whatever passion project it is you might be doing? I worked at an advertising agency for 10+ years building marketing and branding strategy for brands such as Cole Haan, Home Depot, Hummer, and Motel 6 before waking up one day to decide I wanted to stop managing the creative process and start creating something. I quit my job and went to art school. A total adventure! I explored painting, interior design, photography and ultimately learned letterpress printing. I always
loved paper and making invitations and knew immediately I wanted to start a stationery company. I started Yozo Studio with custom, letterpress cards, and still love that work. But we quickly found that our clients wanted more from us than just invitations. Now we do anything from event design to corporate gifts, focusing on tasteful and timeless design to create extraordinary gifts, parties, and stationery.

What was your best memory from 2021, a strange year we know… Launching our line of kids “parties in a box”!

What is the best show you have recently (binge) watched?  Only Murders in the Building – it’s so funny and well done

What is one food you could not live without? One? I cannot live without Tacos. Avocados. Chocolate. Oops that’s 3. Food is the main reason I miss Texas.

What is your greatest indulgence? Staying in my PJs, eating whatever I want, and watching movie after movie.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? I’m insanely organized. You can look in any drawer, closet or basement in my house or studio and it’s organized. Just don’t go in my kids’ rooms.

If you could travel to one place this next year, where would it be and why? We went to Iceland for February break. It was like nothing we’d experienced before – beautiful scenery, extreme weather, sitting in warm lagoons while it was freezing outside. It was amazing. The only issue – we went in the winter to see the northern lights – my bucket list item. Zero aurora borealis sightings. We were there 7 days, 6 nights. I’m still not over it. So now Norway or Alaska are on my mind.

If you could live somewhere other than where you do, where would it be? Probably in Austin because Texas is home. The people are progressive there. But I love Palm Springs, CA. The warm weather, good food and mid-century architecture make me happy.

Are you a morning person, or a night owl? How does sleep fit into your life?  I sneak in a nap whenever a I can! I’m a night owl but the older I get that’s changing. Crazy how sometimes now I cannot stay awake at night to save my life. Not a good thing when you have teenagers.

What thing has surprised you most about being in the suburbs? I love how simple and easy life is here. I can make a list of errands and I’m still shocked when it takes me 20 minutes. The same list in Dallas would take ½ a day.

QUICK THIS OR THAT:
At a movie: Candy or Popcorn? Candy
Cook or order in? Order In
Cake or Ice Cream? Cookies
Iced Coffee or Hot Coffee? Hot Coffee
Beach or Mountains? Both
Puzzle or Board Game? Board Game
Wine or a Cocktail (if cocktail, which one?) Red wine
Reading or writing? Reading – It took me ½ a day to fill out this stinkin’ form!
Before bed: Social media or book/TV? TV
Watch or play sports? Watch – if you throw a ball at me it would probably hit me in the face
Stay in or go out? Both
