Meet Nikki - Westport Moms

How old are your kids and how long have you lived in Westport? My kids are 22, 12, 10, and 8. We moved to Westport in 2018.

How did you end up where you are now in terms of your job, or whatever passion project it is you might be doing? I am the owner and CEO of a highly successful catering and event planning company, Nikki Glekas Events. I started with our first restaurant, EOS Greek Cuisine in Stamford in 2008. My love for event planning led me to take over Bank Street Events in 2014. My success as a restauranteur and as a caterer was a natural fit to partner with Chelsea Piers CT as the exclusive food operator in 2016. With COVID-19, I had to pivot and had a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream of filming a cooking and entertaining show – Nikki’s Modern Mediterranean on YouTube. It’s a passion project that I love, and I hope you all enjoy it too!

What 3 things do you keep on you nightstand? OR What 3 things are in your car at all times? My phone charger, sunglasses, and Pellegrino!

What’s your favorite app right now- for you- and for your kids? Vixer – an app to create videos for Instagram and Tik Tok

What is one food you could not live without? FETA!

What are you most excited about in life right now? COVID gave me a chance to re-energize and reflect. I love spending lots of time with my family and I’m excited for my business to bounce back and continue growing in 2021.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? Right out of college I worked for Nickelodeon and was ‘slimed’ many times on TV. I also attended semester at sea in college where I lived on a cruise ship for 4 months and literally traveled around the world.

If you weren’t doing what you are today, what do you think your career path might have been? I work well in stressful situations. My degree is in Economics and business and I would have loved to be a day trader on the NYSE floor. I love a good thrill, math and making money!

What is your most marked characteristic? Ambition

What was your most memorable family vacation and why?  The Bahamas in 2017. It was the first trip where we went on vacation just our immediate family with no grandparents. For Christmas we surprised the kids with a scavenger hunt all around the house and the pieces of the puzzle spelled out that we were going on our trip the next day. I’ll never forget the joy on their faces while figuring it out. Plus, my husband Jimmy and I were married in the Bahamas and we took the kids to see the church and reception location – they loved watching us re-create our wedding photos. We created great family memories.

Are you a morning person, or a night owl? How does sleep fit into your life right now? Night owl for sure… Sleep? What is that?

What is the first thing you do when you walk in the door after a long day? You can usually find me in full on ‘mom mode’ cleaning, cooking or doing
something home related.

Who in your life was – or is – the greatest inspiration for what you’re doing today? My dad is my greatest inspiration. He taught me to take risks in both life and business. He taught us to never give up and to never take no for an answer. To him, and our family, there is always a way.
