Meet Jess!! - Westport Moms

How old are your kids and how long have you lived in Westport/the area? I have 3 girls Emma, Leah and Katie.  Their ages are 14, 12, and 9. We have lived in Westport since 2009.

How did you end up where you are now in terms of your job, or whatever passion project it is you might be doing? I have always loved to cook and to come up with new recipes. When Covid hit, my interest in cooking truly became a passion and a creative outlet for me.  I found myself always in the kitchen coming up with new recipes.  It brought me so much joy in a very difficult and scary time.  It also made me so happy to see that it gave my family something to look forward to each day.  Over the course of the year, I began documenting my dishes and decided to start sharing all of my recipes. That’s when I came up with the idea of A Sprinkle of Sweet!  It took off and I received so much support and love from family, friends, and peers within the foodie community.  It was definitely a leap of faith, and I am so happy I decided to share my recipes.  I enjoy coming up with recipes that work for busy families like mine!  Everything from easy quick weeknight dinners, to yummy sweets, to a much needed cocktail after a busy week!  All of my recipes can be found on Instagram @a.sprinkle.of.sweet

What was your best memory from 2020, a strange year we know…. A favorite memory of mine this year was our road trip we took to Florida.  My kids hadn’t seen their grandparents in over a year and we missed them terribly.  We stayed for 5 weeks and it was the most special time that we will all always remember!

What are you most looking forward to in 2021? I am looking forward to life getting back to normal, spending time with friends and family, and taking a vacation!

What is the best book you have recently read?  I love to read. Three of my favorite books I have read this year are Verity, The Giver of Stars, and The Silent Patient.

What is one food you could not live without?  Pizza!

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?  People would be surprised to know that I was born in Holland, played D1 tennis in college, and read at least 2 books a week!

If you weren’t doing what you are today, what do you think your career path might have been? I have my masters in school counseling and am a certified lactation consultant, so probably either of those!

Who in your life was – or is – the greatest inspiration for what you’re doing today? This question is easy for me to answer.  My mom is definitely my greatest inspiration.  It was just her and I growing up, which wasn’t always easy.  She set the best example for me on how to be a great mother and I have so many great memories from my childhood.  She was so loving, gave great advice, taught me what hard work means, and always supported my goals and dreams.  She always put a home cooked meal on the table every night and a lot of my recipes are inspired from her cooking.  She is a wonderful mother and Nana, I just wish I got to see and hug her more often!
