Warrior Spotlight - Mammograms Save Lives... - Westport Moms

Many in our community know Felicia Sale, mom of four, and co-founder of Restore Hyper Wellness in Westport! Today she shares her “warrior” story…

On August 1st, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer DCIS stage 0. It was a whirlwind, but I quickly realized how fortunate I was to receive this diagnosis. Although I needed a bilateral mastectomy, I embraced my mantra: be brave, stay positive, and have gratitude.

Ironically, I was in the midst of a Health and Wellness course at the Institute of Integrated Nutrition (graduating this January). Cancer doesn’t discriminate, even for healthy individuals like me. Using the skills I’ve acquired, I became my first client, staying committed to positivity.

The Westport community rallied around me, providing both physical and emotional support. I felt incredibly fortunate, which led to a newfound mission. What about underserved women who lack these resources? That’s when I discovered the incredible organization, Pink Posse, which is a group of volunteer Warriors and friends who help breast cancer patients in dire need by delivering bags of compassion to local area hospitals for immediate distribution to patients. These patients are battling breast cancer. They are also struggling with finances, childcare and personal situations that can be extremely trying.

My daughter, Avery, inspired by their work, has chosen it as her bat mitzvah project! You can make a donation directly to Pink Posse by following this link. When completing the donation form, I would appreciate it if you could check the box that asks if you’d like to dedicate the donation and include her name “Avery Sale”. This will allow us to track and celebrate the total amount we were able to raise for this remarkable cause.

Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of early mammograms. I initially thought I had breast cancer, but the pathology report showed that I did not have cancer yet- just a lot of overactive/atypical cells that likely would have led to problems down the road.  Early detection can make all the difference. Don’t delay—schedule your mammogram today! My story could have been a lot different had I waited too long. #BreastCancerAwareness #PinkPosse #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #WestportMomsCommunity
