Deck time is here! Warm weather and extra sunshine add a little party and enjoyment to every single day, and now is the time to get your home ready so you can spend more time outdoors. One of the best ways to celebrate summer is to fire up the backyard grill and relax on the deck.

Deck Prep:

  • Clean – Wash away the remnants and wear and tear of winter. Sweep and hose, power wash, or even restain and reseal your deck.
  • Repair – New England winters are hard and every so often all decks will need some boards replaced. Soft wood, water damage and splintering are signs the boards need replacement. Some jobs are simple and can be DIY, but when several boards need replacement, it’s time to think about getting a whole new deck.
    • FYI: Here is a sample estimate for deck install:
      • pressure treated wood/cedar + $15-$30/sq.ft.
      • custom designed & built $55–$80/sq.ft.
  • Deck Lighting – Once your deck is in good shape, you’ll want to highlight it with soft outdoor lighting. There are many ways to enhance your deck for aesthetics and safety. You can professionally install recessed lighting, under-the-deck lights, sconce lighting or in-floor lighting. If you are more DIY, you can hang some string lighting and add under-the-table battery light fixtures.
  • Furniture – Clean, repair, update and or replace. You may get away with a simple cleaning of your existing furniture, but why not give your outdoor living space a fresh new look with new cushions or slipcovers or even brand new furniture.
  • GreeneryEnhance your outdoor relaxation vibe with some lush vegetation. Spruce up the corners by bringing in some large planters or plant containers. Depending on your taste and needs, you can really add a special feel with something as small as handy herb planters or as large as privacy creating evergreen containers.
  • Gardening – Whether you have a green thumb or not, adding some basil, tomato, or kale plants to your deck is super simple! They’re easy to maintain and water and the kids love to pick veggies when they’re ready for harvest.
