Mom Hack: Make Frozen Cookie Dough from Your Halloween Candy!

Mom Hack: Make Frozen Cookie Dough from Your Halloween Candy!

Now that Halloween has passed, you’re probably ready to get your kids’ candy out of the house. There are lots of good places to donate, from shelters to toy stores (think The Toy Post for a $5 gift card!) to dentists’ offices to the military, but we stumbled upon this smart idea from The Baker Mama and wanted to share it. This freezable dough uses up your Halloween candy, and you’re ready for any last minute bake sale request from school – win-win!

Squash Toast – Cold Weather YUMMMMMMMINESS!

Squash Toast – Cold Weather YUMMMMMMMINESS!

As the colder weather sets in, we wanted to share this Butternut Squash Toast from local mom and nutritionist, Robin Barrie! (We know that avocado gets the most glory on a regular basis.) Toast is a blank canvas that can be topped with a variety of items.  Plus, it’s a warm alternative to a cold sandwich or salad this time of year.  Butternut squash is in season and delish right now. It is a great source of carotenoids, which benefit healthy eyes and smooth skin….yummmmm!

Pumpkin Bread Recipe!

Pumpkin Bread Recipe!

We’re calling it now—pumpkin bread is the new banana bread. And besides the fact that it is a delicious fall treat, the beta-carotene in pumpkin (converted to Vitamin A in the body) is a true powerhouse vitamin. It boosts the immune system, promotes eye health and helps prevents sun damage! We love the recipe below from The Local Moms Network contributor Maria Provenzano because it uses ingredients you probably already have and is simple, making it a great activity to do with kids.

We’ve rounded up some yummy taco, enchilada, veggie sides, guac, dessert—and yes, margarita—recipes from around the web. And most of them use ingredients that are hopefully already in your fridge and pantry. Whole30 Meatballs in Marinara Sauce: An Easy Weeknight Recipe!

Meatballs are one of those go-to meals that every mom needs in her tool bag. Not only do kids love them as much as adults, but they can be customized to everyone’s preference and dietary restrictions. Celiac disease? Use gluten-free breadcrumbs. Trying to limit white carbs? Put over spaghetti squash noodles or chickpea pasta. Don’t have time to cook? Use your slow cooker, or make a big batch and freeze for a later meal. This Whole 30-approved version comes straight from Whole 30 founder Melissa Urban!

Meet Elyse (of Shark Tank's Bantam Bagels!)

Meet Elyse (of Shark Tank's Bantam Bagels!)

If you like New York bagels, Shark Tank and/or kick-ass women entrepreneurs, Elyse is your girl! Amidst careers in finance, she and her husband Nick spent years brainstorming business ideas until one day they decided to pursue the idea of creating and selling pre-filled on-the-go bagels, and their dreams became a reality! Enter Bantam Bagels! Over the last 6 years, Elyse (and her husband) built their company (starting with a small shop on Bleecker St), had 2 boys, moved to Westport and traveled an amazing journey. After pitching their company on Shark Tank (very pregnant no less), the company truly took off, and they’ve never looked back! Bantam Bagels are now a staple across Starbucks, most grocery stores nationwide, and of course millions of households! Fun facts – Elyse doesnt leave her house without lipstick, still eats bagels every morning, and shares that her husband remains her greatest source of inspiration! We are so lucky to have you in our community, and are going out to buy bagels NOW! Thanks for changing the way we do breakfast!!
