Meet Matt!

Meet Matt!

Local dad of three little boys (6,4, and 22 months), Matt is currently the Chief Marketing Office for Tend, a reimagined dental experience, with 25+ studios nationwide, including one in Westport (right next to Ulta!) Early in Matt’s career he fell in love with consumer brands, and wanted to build brands that provide a moment of happiness in people’s day. At Tend they faced the unique challenge of trying to build the first modern, tech-enabled hospitality brand in the dental industry, aimed at getting consumers to look forward to the dentist! In his free time, Matt loves hiking at Devil’s Den, a good martini, running, baseball, and spending time with his 3 boys and wife! Matt has loved sharing the brand he helped build with his own community, and our community is thrilled to have Tend here!

Meet Nora of Crafty Kids!

Meet Nora of Crafty Kids!

If you have little kids in Westport, you have absolutely heard about Crafty Kids, the new hot spot for all things art, birthday parties, and little kid fun! Mom to three girls (5, 6, and 8), Nora says Crafty Kids was motivated and inspired by her children, and after deciding not to return to a corporate job, wanted to jump into something she loved and enjoyed doing the most – crafting and party planning! In addition to crafting, Nora loves cheese and white chocolate, is terrified of snakes, rarely sleeps, and occasionally slips into a Brooklyn accent, reminding those around her of her roots growing up there! Westport is a better place now that Crafty Kids is here, and we are all grateful to Nora and her family for the gift they have given us by opening such a special place run by such a special family!

Meet a Dad – Craig Melvin!

Meet a Dad – Craig Melvin!

Journalist (and Westport dad!) Craig Melvin is familiar to viewers of NBC’s TODAY show as co-anchor of the must-watch morning program. But to his son Delano (10), and daughter Sybil (7), who he shares with broadcaster Lindsay Czarniak, he’s Dad. Craig is also the author of a newly released children’s book, I’m Proud of You, a celebration of the small, but important milestones in a child’s life. He shares how he hopes his children view it as a testament to him noticing each special moment: “This book is a living document that I’ll hold up to them when they’re teenagers to show that I was paying attention and that I’m so proud of them for all of the ways that they’re growing.” In his Meet a Dad interview, Craig Melvin gives us his take on gentle parenting, putting his phone away around the kids, and the advice that has carried him through fatherhood.

Sunscreen for Kids – Everything you Need to Know!

Sunscreen for Kids – Everything you Need to Know!

Sunscreen for kids is one of those necessary evils every parent deals with in summer. Most kids will whine or try to wriggle their way out of it, making it feel like you’re trying to put sunscreen on a wild animal instead of a kid. Plus, trying to decide which sunblocks to use can feel overwhelming – sticks vs sprays, chemical vs mineral, not to mention rash guards, sunglasses, etc. To sort through what you actually need to know this season, we’re sharing the below interview with Lauren Geller, MD, a Westchester, NY-based pediatric dermatologist associated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Meet Doug – Founder of The Bridge!

Meet Doug – Founder of The Bridge!

A Westport native – and Dad to three boys, Doug has always loved this community – and being part of It. His father was always into cooking and would have loved to have owned a restaurant but it wasn’t in the cards, so as he came to love food and cooking himself in more recent years, he decided to take the plunge, and with some other Westporters created “The Bridge” at Saugatuck, a restaurant opening soon (where Parker Mansion was), and he not wait to be part of the amazing restaurant community in Westport! In his spare time, Doug loves playing the piano, coaching youth sports for his kids, time with his family on their boat, and skiing! For those who know Doug, It is not surprising he wanted to take this project on; we all can’t wait to check It out and to have a new favorite go-to spot on the water!

Meet Ryan Smith!

Meet Ryan Smith!

Proud dad of twin boys, Ryan is most well known as an Anchor, Correspondent & Legal Analyst for ESPN and ABC News. His career started as a lawyer for a football team, then worked for some big firms, and finally, after practicing a mix of sports, entertainment and corporate law, he started doing legal commentary on television in his spare time, ultimately landing at ESPN. Though he is often up and out early in the morning, his favorite family tradition is their “weekly family dinners” at a spot chosen each week by a different member of their family. During these meals, they have uninterrupted time to catch up and talk. In his spare time, Ryan loves horror movies, time at the beach, watching (and playing) football, and Frank Pepe pizza. He is eternally grateful to the support his wife Dafina has given him throughout his career, and tries to remind himself and others that nothing is forever – live in the now, and remember that good things you may not expect may be right around the corner.

Meet a Dad – Geoffrey Baldwin!

Meet a Dad – Geoffrey Baldwin!

If you are a sports parent, player, or just enjoy a great entrepreneurial story, you will love getting to know local dad of two boys, Geoffrey Baldwin. An athlete (as a kid and still today), an artist and industrial designer, and a sports coach (and parent), Geoff recognized a need in the market for a better system for playing Flag Football, to make It more inclusive, convenient and fun! WIN WIN Athletics was born a few years back as a new kind of sports company that solves everyday sports problems for everyday athletes. His flag football kit has gotten interest from recreational teams, collegiate teams, and even the NFL who want to pilot their gear with their youth and adult leagues. In addition to his day job, Geoff loves playing Rec baseball to this day, beach days and nights with his family, and that his biggest learning as a dad he would share is to “just be there.” Geoff is a rockstar designer and coach who Westport is so lucky to have in our orbit. Thanks Geoff for all you are doing for our community- and athletes and kids – everywhere!

Meet Dr. Tracy Brenner

Meet Dr. Tracy Brenner

If you’re looking for someone to talk to, who balances refective listening, thoughtful insights, and practical solutions, meet Dr. Tracy Brenner! A mom to two young kids (10 and 7), Tracy is a licensed clinical psychologist whose primary focus is her private practice working with adolescents and adults. In the last two years, Tracy used her therapeutic skills and has launched a new branch of her business, where many refer to her as “The Camp Counselor” where she works with camps, their staffs, parents, and kids to maximize their social and emotional wellbeing at camp. In her spare time, Tracy loves travel and evening swims with her family, makes a mean spicy margarita, swears by My Grandma’s Secret Spot Remover, and is an early riser, today and always. Part of what makes Tracy so unique is her ability to listen – and to hear what everyone has to say – while always having some thoughts to make a situation easier, less stressful, or more clear. Westport is so lucky to call her ours!
