Meet Al – the real angel behind Al's Angels!

Meet Al – the real angel behind Al's Angels!

Unless you – and your entire family are allergic to ice cream, anyone who lives in the Westport/Fairfield area knows of the local ice cream shop Saugatuck Sweets. That said, you may not know the name Al Diguido; if you don’t, you absolutely should! Al’s Angels – a non-profit that provides support to children and families battling cancer, rare blood diseases, natural disasters and severe financial hardship – was the inspiration of Al over 24 years ago after an unexpected experience at a charity fashion show event he attended. Al truly is an angel and we are blessed to have him in this community. If you are here on November 10th, join Al’s Angels in assembling Thanksgiving meal bins for some needy families out there; to sign up, read more!

Meet Allison

Meet Allison

If you looked the word “Champion” up in the dictionary, the definition should be Allison Walmark. If you know Allison, she’s an inspiration. If you don’t – within two minutes of talking to her – you will laugh, you will be amazed, and you will be inspired. After years as a Marketing Director for many well-known magazines, Allison has turned her attention to issues impacting her own family (namely Autism and breast cancer), and slowly but surely, changing the world for the better. Though Allison’s life has been devoted in recent years to Autism Awareness and the search for a cure, inspired by her son Ethan, she recently battled (and is a survivor of!) breast cancer, and will no doubt fight that fight next. In a next life, she may sleep a bit more and try acting, but for now she enjoys trips with her family (Disneyland and Atlantis being two favorites), watching her gymnast daughter and musician son perform, time with her friends, and dedicating her life to engendering positive change. Allison makes all of us want to be champions for those things that matter most in our worlds, and as her family picture spells out – LOVE – is what drives It all. So, in honor of breast cancer awareness month, we want to honor her, and the many amazing moms (and women) we know – or will know – who are champions just like her!

Did you know that the right helmet can save your life?

Did you know that the right helmet can save your life?

Not all Bicycle Helmets are Created Equal.  It is amazing that some plastic, foam and epoxy can save a cyclist from serious injury or even death.  It is probably true to say that any helmet is better than no helmet at all, but you, or your loved one, are much better protected if you choose your helmets carefully! Why does YOUR house need Gutter Cleaning?

Why does YOUR house need Gutter Cleaning?

Gutters tend to be out of sight and out of mind – until they stop working how they’re supposed to. Meet Victoria – the mom behind "Pinkalicious"

Meet Victoria – the mom behind "Pinkalicious"

Who would have thought an April Fool’s joke about a mom’s child turning pink after eating too many pink cupcakes would have turned into a children’s book series, TV show, and Broadway Musical? No one, including Victoria Kann, mom of two teenage girls, and the author of the 60+ beloved Pinkalicious books anyone and everyone with little girls knows and loves. Victoria moved to Westport 13 years ago, but grew up coming here as a kid! She loves writing, time with her family, gardening, and pets; in fact, growing up she had 2 cats and 13 kittens at one point, in addition to ducks, a rabbit, and a dog (at different times!). Victoria is often known for her silly sense of humor, and swears by blush and her sleep! Don’t miss an in-person reading of her newest book, Pinkalicious and the Amazing Sled Run at the Saugatuck StoryFest THIS Saturday at 11am! We are lucky to call this beloved author one of our own!
