Technology at Fairfield Country Day School

Fairfield Country Day School is an all-boys independent school, grades Pre-Kindergarten through 9, located in Fairfield’s historic Greenfield Hill area. In every grade level at FCDS, technology is meaningfully integrated into our academic program. The Upper and Middle School students are provided the use of laptops for their daily classes. All Middle and Upper School students also have weekly technology classes that teach a variety of topics, including digital citizenship, video making, typing, robotics, coding, photo editing, 3D printing and more. FCDS employs a dual-platform philosophy, meaning that students are exposed to all types of devices during their tenure at the school, including iPads, ChromeBooks, Macbooks and Windows PC’s.  Each Lower School student has an iPad in their classroom to support their curriculum. Boys demonstrate their knowledge of Math, Literacy, Science, Writing, Spanish, and Humanities while using a variety of applications. The younger boys also participate in a coding class, where they practice problem solving and sequencing skills.”

This is Jenna’s 10th year at FCDS and 7th year leading the Pre-Kindergarten program. She has an Early Childhood Education degree from Stonehill College and a Masters in Reading from Sacred Heart University. She lives in Fairfield with her husband, Joe, and 2 boys, Luke (3) and Oliver (21 months).

The Lower School at FCDS is comprised of grades Pre-K-3rd Grade. Jenna asked the LS teachers to share some of their favorite apps that their students use to enhance their curriculum. The above apps are a collaborative effort from its experienced and well-educated teachers:

  • Jenna Gabriel (Pre-Kindergarten)
  • Molly Hemenway & Lynne Redgate (Kindergarten)
  • Jaime Balocca (1st Grade)
  • Sara Moore & Kat Greenberg (2nd Grade)
  • Kelly Barr & Marie Mitchell (3rd Grade)
  • Joanmarie Musico (Spanish  Grades Pre-K-4th).
